There are several events happening in the Mahoning Valley area to commemorate and honor local veterans.

Austintown

Hear the story of retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant and physician Dr. Dana Robinson-Street at this year’s Austintown Fitch High School assembly.

The assembly starts at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 10 in the high school auditorium.

All veterans in the community are welcome to attend the presentation.

Dr. Robinson-Street enlisted as a sailor and worked her way up the ranks to Commissioned Naval Officer.

After 25 years of serving in the U.S. Navy, she retired but continued to serve her community in Columbus.

She’s an urgent care provider and an expert on veterans’ challenges when transitioning from military service to civilian life.

Dr. Robinson-Street started the “Scooters for Veterans Campaign;” it’s provided thousands of dollars for scooters to mobility-impaired veterans for free.

Her motto is “All things veterans; because we served - we deserve.”

Canfield

Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and Valley STEM Academy are hosting a community fundraiser to support disabled veterans in the U.S.

The fundraiser is happening at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at 7300 N. Palmyra Rd. in Canfield.

The day starts with a cornhole tournament, then at noon, join the 2.7-mile Honor Walk.

Proceeds go to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2.

Mercy Health

For Veterans Day, Mercy Health will honor employees at each of the Mahoning Valley hospitals who served in the armed forces on Nov. 10.

Each veteran will receive a pin for their service. After the pinning ceremony, there will be a flag retirement service and presentation of new colors at each facility.

Here’s the schedule for each hospital:

  • Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital ceremony starts at 11:15 a.m. at 8401 Market St. in Youngstown.
  • Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital ceremony stars at 1:15 p.m. at 1044 Belmont Ave. in Youngstown.

Warren

According to organizers from Trumbull County Veteran’s Services, the community is welcome to come to Warren at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10 for the annual Veterans Parade.

The parade starts at Perkins Park and proceeds south on Mahoning Avenue past Courthouse Square.

The route then goes eastbound on West Market Street before ending at the intersection of East Market Street and Vine Avenue.

Following the parade, there’s an open house at the VFW Post 1090 to commemorate it’s 100-year anniversary.

The VFW is located at 611 High St NE, Warren, just a few blocks from where the parade will disband.

Youngstown

The Youngstown community is honoring veterans who are residents at Heritage Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, tenants at Levy Gardens Assisted Living tenants and clients at Adult Day Services at Heritage Manor.

These veterans will be honored in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at 517 Gypsy Lane. The ceremony is sponsored by the Heritage Manor and Southern Care Hospice.

During the ceremony, each veteran will be individually recognized, given a certificate, pin and a salute.
