Warren man gets 4-6 years on cocaine and fentanyl charges

The following cases were handled Tuesday morning in the courtroom of Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan:

  • Zachary O’Meara, 34, of Blue Winged Drive SE, Warren, was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of four to 6 years after pleading guilty to three counts possession of crack /cocaine (f2), possession of fentanyl-related compound (f2), all with specifications. Judge Logan says anytime large quantities of fentanyl-related compound are involved, a prison term is mandatory . The case involved a drug investigation conducted by the Trumbull County Sheriff’s office in September 2021.
  • Daniel L. Chipps, 38, of North Road, Niles pleaded guilty to a second-degree felonious assault charge and received an indefinite prison sentence of three to four and a half years. The case involved a June 7, 2023, incident investigated by Niles police where a woman was reportedly pushed down steps during an altercation and injured.
  • Casey J. Carpenter, 39, of Warren was sentenced to six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony of theft from a person in the protected class. The case involves an Aug. 31, 2023, incident investigated by Warren police where a 75-year-old man was robbed of $3,000 at an ATM machine, prosecutors said.
  • Erica Goeden, 35, of Beechwood Avenue SW, Warren, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs both felonies of the fourth degree. Goeden will be sentenced after she undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers. The case involved an investigation conducted by the Trumbull County Sheriff’s TAG anti-drug task force in March 2021 where two confidential informatants made buys of methamphetamine weighing 1.6 grams and 3.5 grams, prosecutors said. Goeden faces a possible maximum three-year prison sentence.

The following cases were handled Tuesday morning in the courtroom of Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice:

  • Anthony M. Jackson, 33, of Verona Avenue, Youngstown, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted kidnpaping and assault of a corrections officer and was sentenced to 16 months in prison. Judge Rice says consecutive sentences were necessary because of the seriousness of the offenses and in order to protect the public because of the conduct of the defendant. The case involved a 2022 incident in the Trumbull County Jail where a female corrections officer was grabbed and the defendant tried to pull her into a cell. Jackson was given credit for about 450 days already served in jail.
  • Pete Paul Urick, 55, of Herner County Line Road, Southington, pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to stop after an accident and one count attempted tampering with evidence. The defendant was driving a Ford pickup truck on Corey Hunt Road on New Year’s Eve 2021 and struck Leona and David Fisher who were riding their scooters. Both the Fishers were injured and the defendant fled the scene and concealed the damaged vehicl e from authorities. Prosecutors said Urick also purchased new parts for the truck. Urick faces a possible maximum four years in prison and will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers.
  • JaJuan A. Martin, 28, of Douglas Street NW, Warren, pleaded guilty to a third-degree burglary charge. He will be sentenced after a background investigation and faces a possible maximum three yearsin prison. The case involved a break-in at a residence in the 100 block of North River Road in Warren Township on Aug. 15, 2023. Martin and three other co-defendants took items including a crossbow, BB guns, three other bows, speakers and tools. The case was investigated by Warren Township Police.
