Local band directors march in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Multiple Mahoning Valley musicians got the chance to travel to New York City to participate in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Alumni from the Youngstown State University marching band and Liberty Local Schools band director Michael Summers joined 400 music educators from across the U.S. in the band director marching band.
Alaina Cornfield, education director at Students Motivated by the Arts, also marched in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“Marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been on my bucket list since I was a young musician,” she said.
Cornfield is a former band director from Columbiana County.
She’s recently joined the SMARTS team with the dream of reaching students all across the Mahoning Valley using the arts.
