Learning about Native American culture at Mahoning Valley Historical Society
Sebring Local Schools embraced a special learning opportunity with the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
The historical society brought the rich Native American history of the Mahoning Valley to life in Leann Laure’s third grade classroom at B.L. Miller Elementary School.
Dante Bernard from the historical society shared artifacts and led the hands-on exploration.
Students rotated through different stations, getting hands-on experience with games they played, seeds they planted, clothing they wore, and animal furs they hunted.
This presentation aligned perfectly with the third-grade unit of study on how our community has changed over time, with a special focus on using artifacts.
Sebring Local Schools thanked the Mahoning Valley Historical Society for providing this experience and giving students a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Native American history of the Mahoning Valley.
