A Southington driver involved in a 2021 motor vehicle accident that cost a motorcyclist her leg, had his conviction and prison sentence confirmed when the Ohio Supreme Court decided this week not to revisit the case.

The 11th District Court of Appeals earlier this year upheld the conviction and 4 1/2-year prison sentence given to Corey D. Hoffman, 25, who was convicted Nov. 30, 2022, of felony charges in a Sept. 20, 2021, traffic crash in Trumbull County.

Former Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay also had suspended Hoffman’s driver’s license for five years.

The crash victim, Tammy Kingery, has filed a civil lawsuit against Hoffman seeking punitive and compensatory damages. Hoffman pleaded guilty Sept. 29, 2022, to charges of aggravated vehicular assault and failure to stop after an accident.

Hoffman is expected to be released from prison in May 2027, and is currently incarcerated at Richland Correctional Institution in Mansfield, the Ohio Department of Corrections website states.
