Struthers City Schools opens new transportation facility
Struthers City Schools held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site of its newly-constructed transportation facility, located at 300 ½ Creed Street.
What’s in the building?
The 11,000 square-foot building with eight overhead doors, is the new home to 12 buses and a district van, as well as the transportation supervisor’s office and a conference room.
The facility was funded using a combination of grant funds, a lease purchase agreement, and local funds.
Why Struthers is touting the indoor space
An upgrade from the district’s former uncovered surface lot, the garage facility will help extend the life of the buses by providing indoor shelter against the elements of weather, and as a result, the vehicles will require less maintenance work.
The large indoor space offers benefits beyond just the buses.
“This addition not only enhances the efficiency of our vehicles, but will also help with our day-to-day operations, by having office spaces for our transportation team,” says Struthers City Schools Superintendent Pete Pirone. “It’s a major upgrade from the 1980s trailer that was used for an office at the old parking lot.”
The district is planning an open house for the community in the spring.
