Prosecutor’s office donates 2,000 items to local domestic violence shelters

The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office teams up with local schools to run a yearly donation drive benefiting local women and men in domestic violence shelters.

This year, they donated 2,000 items, like toiletries, personal hygiene kits, and coloring books for the Sojourner House and Christina House.

Who did Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office work with on the drive?

The prosecutor’s office collaborated with local schools for the drive, including South Range, Austintown Fitch, and Salem.

“Over the past three years, we have collected and donated over 17,000 items and thousands of dollars to assist victims of domestic violence,” said Prosecutor DeGenova. “This initiative has brought me in contact with some amazing students and I am honored to have met and worked with them on this project.”

Ways to help

While the donation drive has concluded for this year, Sojourner House in Youngstown and Christina House in Lisbon still accept donations.

Organizations are always looking for the following items: gift cards to grocery stores, twin sheets with pillowcases, standard-sized pillows, disposable diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, undershirts (all infant sizes), pull-ups, teething rings, bath towels and washcloths, socks of all sizes, personal hygiene products (all kinds), ethnic hair care products, sleepwear (especially plus sizes for women), paper products such as paper plates, toilet paper, and tissues.

They’re also looking for donations of cleaning supplies such as bleach, dish soap, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaner, and glass cleaner.
