Mahoning County Prosecutor’s office holds drive to help fight domestic violence

The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s office recently held a domestic violence awareness drive to help victims and organizations in the Mahoning Valley combat this particular crime.

Prosecutor Gina DeGenova and her staff teamed up with several local school districts to collect items benefiting the victims of domestic violence. School districts participating included South Range, Austintown Fitch, and Salem, which help collect nearly 2,000 items, Degenova said.

“This initiative has brought me in contact with some amazing students and I am honored to have met and worked with them on this project,” the prosecutor said.

Over the past three years, DeGenova said this drive has collected thousands of dollars and more than 17,000 donated items to help the victims.

Sojourner House and Christina House received the donations from the prosecutor’s office on Nov. 30.

The items donated ranged from toiletries to shoes to coloring books and more.

DeGenova said while the office drive has been completed Sojourner House and Christina House looking for gift cards to grocery stores, twin sheets with pillowcases, standard-sized pillows, disposable diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, undershirts (all infant sizes), pull-ups, teething rings, bath towels and washcloths, socks of all sizes, personal hygiene products (all kinds), ethnic hair care products, sleepwear (especially plus sizes for women), paper products such as paper plates, toilet paper, and tissues, and cleaning supplies such as bleach, dish soap, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaner, and glass cleaner.
