Girard man pleads guilty to charges of downloading child porn

The following cases were handled Tuesday before Judge Andrew D. Logan on Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

• Harold W. Bennett, 72, of West Liberty Street, Girard, pleaded guilty to five counts, second-degree pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and two counts, fourth-degree pandering of sexually oriented material involving a minor. Bennett will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers. Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman said the case involved Bennett downloading child pornography on his computer involving children as young as infants and toddlers. Wildman said he always asks for prison terms in these type of cases.
• Domenick Vetrano, 37, of Broadway Avenue, Newton Falls, was sentenced to 18 months in state prison after pleading guilty to a third-degree felony of domestic violence, a fourth-degree violation of a protection order and a misdemeanor endangering children charge. The case involved the repeat offender slapping his wife in the face in front of their four children on Sept. 2, 2023. The defendant accepted responsibility saying he was drinking heavily that day, according to his attorney Kristin Maxwell.
• Shawn M. Stambolia, 42, of Miller Street SW, Warren, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony of domestic violence and another fourth-degree charge of endangering children. The case involved a June 17, 2023, when Stambolia struck a 36-year-old live-in girlfriend in front of children at the Miller Street home. The judge ordered sentencing to be held Jan. 9 and released Stambolia on Jan. 9 and obey the no-contact order on the victim. Both defense attorney Jeff Goodman and assistant prosecutor Wildman had agreed to a 10-month prison sentence for Stambolia, but Judge Logan warned Stambolia that could change if he gets into more trouble prior to the sentencing hearing.
