‘Keep yourself safe:’ Youngstown police issue warning for delivery drivers
The Youngstown Police Department issued a warning to anyone making deliveries this season to be extra cautious while at work.
According to YPD, they’ve received reports from several local vendors about delivery drivers who’ve been sent to areas for suspicious orders and/or been confronted by suspicious customers.
“Regardless of what you are delivering, the most important job you have is to keep yourself safe,” said YPD.
Here are a few more pieces of advice from police:
- Always be aware of your surroundings; know the address and its location before heading there
- Drive away and avoid areas that appear abandoned and/or poorly lit; have a flashlight handy
- Never walk behind a dark building or go to a door out of view of your vehicle or the street
- Park in areas that are well-lit
- Don’t carry large amounts of cash
- Pay attention to vehicles that may be following you
- Do not allow a customer to redirect you to a place other than the original delivery location.
Lastly, if something “feels off” about the delivery once you arrive, drive away and call your store for further instructions.
Always call 9-1-1 if there is an immediate emergency during a delivery.
