Warm Hearts for Warm Homes
In the six counties that make up the Diocese of Youngstown, there are currently more than 163,000 people living in poverty.
The Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is hosting a post-holiday collection to help pay winter utility bills for individuals and families in need.
It’s called the Warm Hearts for Warm Homes campaign in conjunction with Poverty Awareness Month.
Catholic Charities is asking for donations from the community in parishes and online starting Jan. 13 -14.
You can make donations online here or send them to Catholic Charities, Warm Hearts for Warm Homes at 144 West Wood St. in Youngstown, 44503.
Due to the rising cost of postage and the delayed delivery service of mail, online donations are encouraged.
Continuing the Care Initiative
The Trumbull-Mahoning DEI Collaborative partnered with Cadence Care Network to help replenish local pantries and closets after the holiday season.
The Trumbull-Mahoning DEI Collaborative said with the end of pandemic assistance programs and the rise in inflation, there are fewer resources for local food pantries to meet community members’ needs.
Even though there’s usually an increase in charitable giving during the holiday season, it’s not enough to support them throughout the new year.
In order to help address this issue, the Trumbull-Mahoning DEI Collaborative began the Continuing the Care Initiative.
They’re working to raise money and buy needed items in bulk that’ll be distributed to local food pantries as needed throughout the year.
Anyone interested in donating to the Continuing the Care Fund can go to Trumbull-Mahoning DEI Collaborative Continuing the Care Initiative Fund website.
