$180,000 coming to Village of Healing for maternal, infant health in northeast Ohio
The Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Children and Youth gave money to local organizations in the Mahoning Valley to improve support for pregnant women and newly-parenting families.
According to a release from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s office, $180,000 has been granted to northeast Ohio-based healthcare center, The Village of Healing.
The Village of Healing is based in Cuyahoga, but the official release lists Mahoning and Trumbull as part of the grant.
They’ve also announced almost $350,000 will go toward the Baby’s 1st Network.
It’s a program to increase infant safe sleep education across the state.
In total, $5 million to 19 community and faith-based organizations in Ohio, according to Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, director of the Ohio Department of Health.
“These grant funds are much needed and will go a long way in supporting and advancing maternal and infant health throughout Ohio,” said Dr. Vanderhoff. “These funds will expand the reach of important programs, information, and guidance in areas critical to the health and well-being of our youngest Ohioans, including prenatal care, breastfeeding and nutrition, and stress management, as well as connect families to other health and social resources vital to their success.”
The funds are going toward services supporting infant and maternal health.
It’ll also be used to fill in the gaps to provide more support for pregnant women and newly parenting families, up to 12 months postpartum, according to the state.
