Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership installed a new mural in Girard with the theme of healthy eating and living on the north wall of Save-A-Step Food Mart.

TNP’s healthy community store program has been working to address food access challenges in Trumbull County since 2019 by providing assistance to local corner stores to carry fresh fruits and vegetables. Save-A-Step Food Mart has been part of the program since 2022, and has been carrying produce consistently for the neighborhood. This program is funded by the Healthy Community Partnership, a collaboration of local organizations focused on healthy initiatives. There are almost ten stores in the program.

The mural was designed by local artist and art teacher Emma Smith, and this is Smith’s first mural.

“Murals are a great way to attract the community’s attention toward something artistic and healthy, and beautify the community in the process.” notes Lydia Walls, TNP’s Healthy Eating and Active Living Coordinator.
