A 24-year-old Austintown man was taken into custody as a suspect in a police chase that reached speeds of about 90 mph on West Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue in Boardman late March 16.

According to a Boardman police report, officers on patrol observed a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with no visible license plate and excessively tinted windows. In an attempt to make a traffic stop near Hitchcock Apartments, the vehicle drove around the complex and headed northbound on West Boulevard. The chase was on as the vehicle ignored red traffic signals at Boardman Canfield Road and Shields Road. The report stated that the vehicle continued northbound, failing to yield at the stop sign.

The report said the pursuit lasted about two minutes and traveled about 2.5 miles before it was terminated.

The officer noted in the report that he heard over radio traffic that Youngstown police were pursuing a similar vehicle northbound on Glenwood Avenue past Midlothian Boulevard. Youngstown police also terminated that chase.

The report stated that the vehicle involved in the chase was found in a parking lot in the 7400 block of West Boulevard about eight hours later.

The man sleeping in the vehicle was identified as the 24-year-old driver and chase suspect, who had an active warrant through Cleveland police for failure to appear at a court arraignment.

The man was taken into custody and charges related to the chase were pending.
