The Trumbull County sheriff’s office honored the career of a detective retiring after 31 years of service on March 27.

A reception was held to honor Jolene Marcello, who started her career at the sheriff’s office as a correctional officer in March 1993.

On May 5, 1997, Marcello was sworn in as a deputy. Officials said she spent time in all divisions, eventually making her way to the investigation unit. As a detective for the last 16 years, officials said Marcello has been actively involved in every investigation of the sheriff’s office, specializing in crimes against children and sex offenses.

“Not only has she been a leader and role model at the sheriff’s office, but Marcello is also a devoted daughter, mother, and friend to all,” stated Sheriff Paul Monroe in a tribute to the retiring detective found on the sheriff’s social media page.

Outside the office, Marcello is an award-winning bocce player competing in tournaments across the state.

She also volunteers her time at community events or spending time with her children.

“We take pride in our employees and all their accomplishments both inside and outside of work, Joleen has dedicated her life to helping others, personally and professionally,” the sheriff said.
