Workers on strike at Austintown T&W Stamping allege bad faith bargaining
Employees at T&W Stamping in Austintown are protesting their company’s alleged bad faith bargaining during their contract negotiations that have been going on since 2023.
They’re all members of Boilermakers Local 1622 who claim their employer hasn’t been upholding standards of good faith bargaining during their contract negotiations.
Twenty-five employees joined the protest, which started March 25 and continues into this week.
Local 1622 filed unfair labor practice charges against T&W with the National Labor Relations Board.
Next, the NLRB will review the claim.
A representative from T&W Stamping said the company has no comment at this time.
What are union members claiming against T&W Stamping?
According to Nick Dewell, president of the workers’ union, they’re claiming the company took a “regressive action” and failed to uphold fair bargaining practices.
“We had hoped it wouldn’t come to this—an unfair labor practice strike—but this is no way to treat the workers who have made them successful, and we can’t let this unfair treatment prevail,” said Dewell.
They’re claiming T&W “prematurely implemented a part of the company’s economic proposals prior to” reaching an agreement with the union workers.
“We aren’t asking for much—just for the company to go back to the bargaining table with us and bargain in good faith,” said Dewell.
Their picket line is set up near T&W’s facility at 207 N. Four Mile Road in Austintown.
“Our union will stand with our brothers and their families at Local 1622 to see this through,” said Boilermakers International President Warren Fairley. “We hope the community and others will join us in standing in protest with these hard-working people.”
