Ursuline raising funds for new Arts and Wellness Annex Building
In its Alumni publication, Ursuline High School President Rev. Richard Murphy announced a new building initiative, the first at historic school campus on the near northside of Youngstown since 1955.
As part of the board of directors’ five year strategic plan, Rev. Murphy announced the growth of the school campus with a planned new 41,000 square foot Arts and Wellness Annex Building, to be built on the soon-to-be demolished former convent.
Murphy said the building will meet the long-term needs of both Ursuline High School’s burgeoning music and sports programs. Fund-raising efforts have already begun on the project, with more than $1.6 million received of the $3.65 million pledged, Murphy said.
“The projects (from this initiative) at its core are transformative of the mission and potential reach of Ursuline High School,” Murphy stated. “I will be seeking with every fiber of my being to rally all of you (alumni) and everyone in the Valley who cares for our capacity for social good, to see its objectives through to ultimate success.”
Other plans of the initiative, which was championed by the late Youngstown Bishop George Murry, include:
- Increase the school’s protected endowment funds, which now stand 10th among private schools in the state with $12.5 million in holdings/interests;
- New support for faculty and program resources to expand the school’s college prep program;
- Expand religious education programs dedicated to teaching servant-leadership in the Catholic tradition.
