Meeting the makers, bakers at the Youngstown Flea

At Saturday’s Youngstown Flea, several rows of small business owners and vendors from northeast Ohio moved their merchandise and set up intricate displays.

In the maker’s sections, vendors sell everything from thrift to handmade clothes, candles, soaps, home decor, mugs, pottery, 3-D printed collectibles, plants, and more.

In the sweets and treats section at the front, you can stock up on homemade bread, macarons, cookies, cakes, honey, iced tea, mixers, and more.

You’ll be able to spot Fat T’s Cookies at the Youngstown Flea by their mascot: Briggs, wearing his company cookie shirt, ready to sell customers quarter-pound cookies.

Travis Howe, based in Akron, owns Fat T’s Cookies but has been a regular at the Youngstown Flea for the past five years.

Momma and Poppa T, a.k.a. Jack and Cindy Howe, help with the in-person sales at events but say most of his sales come from online orders.

“He built his own website and did his own marketing and advertising through social media,” Jack said.

He has two or three other people who do other markets primarily spring through Christmas, and his online business is year-round.”

Fan favorites include the Cinn City, Moose House and peanut butter with different flavors of jelly on top.

Everything’s handmade and hand-weighed, according to Travis’s website where you can place orders.
