The Ohio Department of Transportation has been studying and reworking construction plans for Brookwood Road in Boardman Township.

Brookwood Road is one road that’s part of the proposed safety improvement project at the State Route 7 and Market Street intersection with Shields Road, Indianola Road and Brookwood Road in Boardman Township.

ODOT wants to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety at this five-legged intersection, according to ODOT.

It’s a project that’s been in the works since 2021. ODOT met last spring with Boardman Township trustees to figure out what to do to make the five-part intersection that won’t interfere with businesses in the area.

The first plan was to make the road into a cul-de-sac.

Instead, Brookwood Road will permanently close and “terminate with the installation of signing and a grassed area to minimize impacts to the adjacent properties.”

The road’s been closed since 2021, and will remain closed until next spring, according to ODOT.

The project will also cut down the number of entry and exit points at the Shell Gas Station by closing the western Indianola Road driveway and changing the southern Market Street drive to right-in-only.

During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction along SR 7/Market Street, Shields Road, and Indianola Road. Access will also be maintained to adjacent properties during construction.

There’s a full list of ODOT’s responses to public comments and a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the safety improvements of the mock closure.
