The votes are in, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced this year’s inductees into the 2024 Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Fans helped a band with roots in Youngstown come out on top and secure them as an inductees for the 2024 class at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Kool & the Gang was founded by brothers Robert “Kool” Bell and Ronald Bell who grew up in Youngstown.
They started playing music when they moved to New Jersey, but have roots with family in northeast Ohio.
Over their 35-year career, Kool & the Gang received two Grammy Awards, as well as seven American Music Awards. Some of their well-known greatest R&B hits include Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness and Higher Plane.
The announcement was made on American Idol last night; Kool & the Gang will be inducted in Cleveland in the same class as legends like Cher, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton and Ozzy Osbourne.
The ceremony will be live on Disney+ and ABC from the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland on Oct. 19.
Kool & the Gang also received the first star plaque on the city of Youngstown’s newest attraction: Youngstown’s Walk of Fame.
