Motorcyclist critically injured in Columbiana County crash; here’s what we know

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Lisbon is investigating the cause of a crash involving a motorcycle that left one driver with serious injuries in Columbiana County.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. yesterday on State Route 9 in Butler Township, according to the early information released by OSP troopers.

A 49-year-old Salem resident was driving southbound in a 2011 Subaru WRX.

The driver was struck by a Harley Davidson motorcycle, ridden by a 25-year-old man from Lisbon.

The crash happened when the motorcycle drove left of the center and struck the Subaru, according to OSP.

According to the latest updates, the rider of the motorcycle in the crash is in critical condition.

OSP said STAT MedEvac crews had to life-flight him to St. Elizabeth’s Mercy Health Hospital in Youngstown.

The driver of the Subaru was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators said it’s not clear right now if distracted driving or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Several departments helped secure the area, including the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, the Winona Fire Department and Springer Towing.
