Youngstown Police Department investigators just arrested a suspect charged with the murder of Christian Oliver on the northside in 2023.

Officers have been trying to figure out who shot the 29-year-old man who was found dead on Zents Avenue on November 19 last year.

Detectives secretly indicted Keylan Adams for the homicide charges.

The U.S. Marshals Office and the Atlanta Police Department located and arrested Adams. He’s currently awaiting extradition back to Ohio to face the charges.

A bystander was also injured during the shooting that killed Oliver.

Detective sergeants Anthony Vitullo and Barber have been collecting witness interviews, evidence for forensic analysis and building “the foundation for a solid case,” according to Capt. Simon.

“Important to that foundation was the understanding and cooperation of the community who knows best that violence in the city of Youngstown cannot be tolerated,” wrote Capt. Simon.

According to YPD’s Chief of Detectives Capt. Jason Simon, the investigation’s been going on for months in cooperation with the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

“As I often say, we go where the evidence leads us,” said Simon. “But that evidence has to be carefully scrutinized. Building a strong, prosecutable case against an individual(s) is important to investigators to ensure that justice will be served,” said Capt. Simon. “The City of Youngstown has the best patrol officers and detectives in the nation, but we cannot successfully combat crime and help end the violence without the assistance of our brave and resilient residents. None of us can do it alone, but together we can accomplish anything.”
