See an issue while visiting a gravesite on Memorial Day? Here’s where Ohio wants you to report it
As we mark Memorial Day, the Ohio state government is calling all hands on deck to make sure gravesites are properly maintained.
The Ohio Department of Commerce encourages Ohioans to help keep the state’s cemeteries beautiful and safe by reporting maintenance issues as they prepare to observe Memorial Day by visiting the gravesites of fallen heroes.
The Department’s Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing (REPL) issued a press release to inform people on cemetery registrations to ensure proper upkeep on both grounds and structure throughout Ohio. Family cemeteries are exempt from this registration requirement.
Cemetery visitors play an important role in helping to ensure these sites remain properly maintained and safe for visitors year-round, REPL Superintendent Daphne Hawk said on the press release.
“Whether it’s during Memorial Day or at any other time of the year, we encourage individuals who notice a potential issue at a cemetery to first address it with cemetery management so it can be resolved,” Hawk said.
In the event that cemetery management is unresponsive, Hawk is directing people to to file a complaint with the Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Co
