Youngstown city officials said they are looking for a structural engineer to see how the damaged Realty Tower on East Federal Street could impact public health.

“What we’re doing right now is we’re bringing in an engineer as a third, independent party, to look at the building to make sure the general public is going to be safe,” Chuck Shasho, deputy director of Public Works, said at the press conference.

The building was damaged in an explosion last Tuesday that killed one person and injured seven.

Last week, representatives from the National Transportation Safety Bureau said a possible cut below ground service line in the basement of the building is the center focus of the investigation.
