Youngstown State, organizations help residents affected by downtown explosion
Youngstown State University stepped in to help local residents still figuring out next steps after an explosion killed one person and injured seven people.
YSU president Bill Johnson said they’re working with city officials “to determine how we may best support” them after the Realty Tower explosion.
Youngstown officials are currently working with the United Way to assist residents.
Youngstown Mayor Jamael “Tito” Brown said his office is working with the state leaders on next steps and safety measures moving forward to keep nearby businesses and patrons out of harm’s way.
“We extend a heartfelt thank you to United Way and all local agencies who are assisting during this time, and for their continued collaboration with YSU. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to all individuals, families and friends who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy,” said Johnson.
The National Transportation Safety Bureau said a cut gas line led to the explosion.
