Crime Stoppers of Mahoning Valley is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who has information on the recent murder of a community activist.

Police said William “Shimmie” Miller, 49, was shot to death on Steel Street on June 12 by an unknown assailant. Officials have yet to identify the shooter in the case.

Crime Stoppers put out a press release encouraging the Youngstown community to come forward if they have any information that may lead to the arrest and indictment of the person who shot Miller. Individuals with tips were asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 330-746-2583.

The hotline is managed by a non-law enforcement program coordinator, according to the Crime Stoppers website. All callers can remain anonymous by being called a code number instead of any names.

Miller was an activist whose goal was to lead the community’s youth away from violence and provide mentorship for them to have brighter futures. He was found dead in a car.

His case remains under investigation by Youngstown police.
