Mahoning Prosecutor’s Office announces increase in Spanish resources for crime victims
The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office announced an increase for language accessibility for Spanish-speaking victims.
The prosecutor’s office issued a press release on Tuesday that it will be translating key victim rights documents into Spanish. Documents will inform crime victims of different resources and services available.
Translated documents also give information about Marsy’s Law, which protects victims’ rights and identity. Crime victims will also be eligible to receive notices of court proceedings in Spanish if they choose to.
“We understand that crime can be a frightening experience, especially for those who may not speak English fluently,” Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova said. “By having these essential documents already prepared in Spanish, we are removing a language barrier and empowering victims to participate fully in the court system.”
The office mentioned that crime victims can request their services to be in Spanish during their first interaction at the prosecutor’s office, according to the press release. Other information can also be found on the victim services website.
