Nonprofit announces new digital learning center for rural Mahoning
Oak Hill Collaborative (OHC) will soon debut its first Digital Learning Center in rural Mahoning County.
The Digital Learning Center is in collaboration with Springfield Township and will host digital education workshops and classes in the fire station at 3989 New Middletown Rd, East New Middletown.
Students will gain hands-on technology skills and learn crucial applications needed for workforce advancement, personal interests, educational development and more.
“Springfield Township residents deserve the same opportunities as other areas, and through our partnership with Oak Hill Collaborative, we’re able to give back to our residents. Through these classes, we can educate them on the significance of digital access and online resources,” Springfield Township Trustee Josh Wiery said.
Classes begin July 10 and are free to the public, regardless of residency. Springfield Township residents who attend five completed classes qualify for a free, refurbished laptop and accompanying accessories through OHC’s Hardware for Homes Program.
OHC’s efforts have long been supported by various Mahoning County Government Offices, including the Board of Mahoning County Commissioners.
“The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners is dedicated to ensuring educational resources are available to everyone, and equity in our county has expanded to an area of need with this partnership,” Board President Commissioner Anthony Traficanti said. “Residents of Mahoning County’s rural areas deserve not only broadband access, but the tools to learn and grow digitally as well.”
Wiery, Traficanti and OHC’s Executive Director, Patrick Kerrigan, will be present at the press conference for comments.
