Why Youngstown firefighters union told members not to help get items from Realty Building
Youngstown Professional Fire Fighters Local 312 is urging its members not to accompany Realty Tower residents into the building to retrieve possessions before the building is demolished.
The reported demolition is slated to start this week.
“If you have been solicited by the Chief to “volunteer” your time for the attempted recovery of resident’s possessions from the wreckage, please consider the risks to you and your family that the City will not be assuming any liability for,” the group said in a Facebook message posted Tuesday.
Owners of the building have reportedly said residents will be able to retrieve some items and were told share a list of items that will fit into a carry-on-type suitcase.
