The Mahoning Valley community will soon participate in a 3-mile walk to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association invites Northeast Ohioans to register for the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Mahoning Valley on Sept. 28 at the Watson & Tressel Training Site at Youngstown State University.

With more than 600 Walks taking place across the U.S. each fall, Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraising event and supports the Association’s free educational programs and support groups, Alzheimer’s care services and advancements in treatment and research.

Nationwide, one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. In Ohio, there are 236,200 individuals aged 65 and over living with the disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association Facts and Figures report.

The walk is made possible through the efforts of 2024 executive event chair, Joe Voytek and sponsors Comfort Keepers/Care-A-Van and White Glove Payroll.

Additional Walks to End Alzheimer’s will happen across Northeast Ohio through the end of October.

Registration is open for individuals and teams. Check-in on the day of the event opens at 8:30 am. The Promise Garden Ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. and the walk will commence immediately afterward.
