Looking for something memorable to do this weekend?
With several festivals and special community events in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, here are our top four picks for things to do this weekend.
Howland Food Truck Friday
Grab a bite to eat and celebrate the start of the weekend from 5 - 8 p.m. for Food Truck Friday at the Richard E. Orwig Park in Howland Township.
There’s something for everyone, with the following food trucks signed up:
- The Alternative
- Majevics
- Mijavec’s Smokehouse
- TortA’mo
- Pick Me Up Coffee Co.
- Curbys Custard
- Holy-Y-Cow Donut
Rick’s Remedy is playing music for the family-friendly event, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
The summer series is organized by the Howland Township Trustees.
Mahoning Valley Scrappers vs. State College Spikes
Thursday’s game is sold out, but tickets are still available for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ game at 7:05 p.m. on Friday against the State College Spikes.
It’s the second of back-to-back games wrapping up with a fireworks display at Eastwood Field, but tonight’s show is Star Wars-themed.
On Friday, it’s Star Wars Night and special Boba Fett team jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Trumbull County Historical Society.
Place a bid online or at the game.
Mahoning Valley Irish Festival
On Friday, kick off the weekend with a visit to the third annual Mahoning Valley Irish Festival from 5 - 11 p.m. at Penguin City Brewing in downtown Youngstown.
Stop by the Mahoning Valley Irish Festival for Irish-American food, cocktails, dance performances, music and vendors.
Several bands are performing on two stages for the first night of Mahoning Valley Irish Festival, including The Low Kings, Seamus, Burke Irish Dancers and more.
Then on Saturday, the festival returns from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. at Penguin City, featuring vendors and activities for kids like face painting.
Get an in-person reading from Salem’s Green Moon Goddess Metaphysical Shop either day at Penguin City and $5 from every reading goes to the Columbiana County Humane Society.
Ticket proceeds on either day of the festival go toward several local charities, including ISLES/Purple Cat, St. Baldrick’s Youngstown, Altrusa Society, Diva Donations, Mahoning Valley Roller Derby Team, Thrive 10:10 and Ursuline Soccer.
