More self-checkout lanes, Walmart+ lane, expanded pharmacy among Salem Walmart upgrades

The Salem community can now enjoy brand new renovations at the local Walmart Supercenter as it boasts new “customer-centric” features.

Customers were welcomed inside the newly transformed supermarket located at at 2875 E. State St. after the store reopened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

New features of the store include more self-checkout lanes, a Walmart+ lane for members, an expanded pharmacy with new private screening rooms, new signage for easier store navigation and a “new mother’s room” for nursing mothers. Many other improvements and upgrades to the store departments were also highlighted.

Several local officials including Salem Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey and Salem Police Chief J.T. Panezott joined Walmart associates to mark the occasion with a community celebration and an unveiling of a community-inspired mural.

Local worship leader Ashley Walker kicked off the celebration by performing the National Anthem while the Ladies Auxiliary AMVETS Post 45 Presented the Colors. Several Walmart associates who had been with the store since it opened in 2003 an were also recognized.

“For more than 20 years we have proudly served the Salem community so it’s extra special to invite our customers to join us in celebrating all the improvements that have been made to their store,” store manager Eric Schenk said. “We’re certain the upgrades will not only offer our customers a fresh new look, but the innovations will enhance their overall shopping experience.”

Schnek also presented $11,000 in grants on behalf of Walmart to local nonprofits to show Walmart’s dedication to the community.

The celebration continued throughout the day with vendors including Smart Style, Subway, Ole’, Red Bull, Hershey’s and more passing out free samples to customers. The Oscar Wiener Mobile was also there providing food in the Walmart parking lot.
