Tourism Economics released its latest report detailing the economic impact of tourism in Mahoning County, revealing steady growth and positive results for the region.

The report highlights that visitor spending activity in Ohio has moved beyond recovery in 2023, demonstrating strong growth and consumer confidence.

According to the report, Mahoning County experienced a total economic impact of $1.1 billion in 2023, with over $638 million attributed to direct visitor spending. This figure encompasses both day and overnight visitors, underscoring the County’s appeal as a tourism destination.

Mahoning County has been ranked among the top four counties in northeast Ohio for tourism business by sales, trailing only Cuyahoga, Summit and Stark counties.

The sustained visitor activity in Mahoning County supported over 10,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, highlighting the critical role of tourism in the local economy., according to Megan Magnetta, Executive Director of Mahoning County Tourism.

“Since 2021, we have observed a consistent upward trend in Mahoning County’s tourism sales. This steady growth is a testament to the county’s attractiveness as a destination and the resilience of our local tourism industry,” said Magnetta. “The significant impact of tourism on our community is evident, and we are thrilled to see such positive results. We look forward to continuing this momentum and welcoming even more visitors to experience all that Mahoning County has to offer.”
