This week, the Healthy Community Partnership, Mercy Health’s Stepping Out Program and YoGo Bike Share co-hosted a special free community bike ride and walk.

Riders and walkers met at noon Wednesday for the special event. It’s part of the weekly Walk Wednesday walking group that takes place at Wean Park.

This week, riders took a short three-mile trip through downtown Youngstown and Youngstown State University’s campus, while those walking went to Wean Park.

Riders could either bring personal bikes or use an e-bike. Everyone met at the YoGo Bikeshare Dock in the Covelli Center parking lot near the Chase Bank truck.

The goal of the event was to provide community members with an opportunity to participate in a healthy, outdoor group exercise activity and to try out a YoGo e-bike.

Walk the Valley

This and several other free outdoor walking classes are part of the Healthy Community Partnership’s Walk the Valley Initiative in partnership with Mercy Health’s Stepping Out Program.

The goal of Walk Wednesday activities is to improve residents’ physical and mental health with regular outdoor physical activity and social connection with other walkers which helps to create a sense of community and belonging.

Anyone in the Mahoning Valley is invited and encouraged to attend and invest in their fitness and wellbeing one step, or ride, at a time.
