Youngstown City Health District receiving $9,000 for upcoming Minority Health Month
State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) announced the Ohio Commission on Minority Health chose the Youngstown City Health District to receive $9,000 as part of a statewide grant program.
The $9,000 grant will be used for Minority Health Month programs happening in April of 2025.
The goal of Minority Health Month is to educate and inform Mahoning Valley community members, as well as leaders, of health issues that affect minority and under-served populations.
Erin Bishop is the health commissioner and local registrar of the Youngstown City Health District.
“The Youngstown Office on Minority Health is grateful for this funding that will help with the implementation of the annual community-wide baby shower on April 18, 2025, and an interactive health fair on April 26, 2025,” said Bishop. “Save the dates, more information to follow.”
The 2025 Minority Health Month theme will be “Good Health Begins With You!”
All of the programs and activities funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health are free and open to the public.
Rep. McNally said she’s looking forward to celebrating and learning alongside the Youngstown community in April.
“Minority Health Money is an important opportunity to bring attention, information, and support to our communities and help our neighbors lead healthier, better lives,” said McNally.
According to the Ohio Commission on Minority Health, the grant program funds are focused on helping Ohio community health organizations:
- Provide crucial information that allows individuals practice disease prevention;
- Promote healthy lifestyles;
- Showcase the providers of grassroots healthcare resources and information;
- Highlight the disparate health conditions between Ohio’s minority and non-minority populations; and
- Gain additional support for on-going efforts to improve minority health year round.
Minority Health Month was created in 1989.
