Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appoints 2 in Mahoning County to state commissions

As part of his job, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appoints several people to positions in his cabinet, as well as county commissioners, university trustees, education board members and more.

On Thursday, Gov. DeWine’s office released a list of 57 people recently appointed or re-appointed to their roles, including two in Mahoning County.

Juan Rivera

Juan M. Rivera, from Campbell, has been reappointed to the Ohio Commission on Hispanic-Latino Affairs for a term starting Dec. 19 through Oct. 7, 2027.

As a member of the Ohio Commission on Hispanic-Latino Affairs, Rivera highlights issues affecting Hispanic Ohioans when meeting with the governor, legislators and members of state agencies.

The OCHLA also connects members of Latino communities across the state with one another, and fund more Latino community organizations through grants.

There are eight commissioners that make up the OCHLA.

Rivera has been a pastor at New Life Church in Youngstown since 2007.

He also serves on the board of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Message of Hope and Love the One.

Anthony Jesko

Anthony W. Jesko, of North Lima, has been appointed to the Oil and Gas Land Management Commission for a term beginning Dec. 19 and ending Sept. 29, 2028.

Jesko is an energy lawyer from North Lima who practices in cases that deal with oil and gas law at Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C

He’s a shareholder of the historic Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. which has been around since 1906. He’s a member of the firm’s Energy Group and Real Estate Group, according to Lawyer.com.

Jesko attended several universities while getting his credentials, including Youngstown State University and Michigan State University College of Law.

He’s one of five people appointed to the Ohio and Gas Land Management Commission, which is in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

This commission, created in 2019, oversees issues about who can lease Ohio’s public parks and lands to companies in the oil and gas industries for producing oil.

If Ohioans believe they’ve been harmed by an order from the Chief of the Division of Oil & Gas Resources Management, they’ll make their case in front of the Ohio and Gas Land Management Commission.

The commission also has the authority to deny fracking in state parks, according to the Ohio Capital Journal.

In November, Gov. DeWine reappointed Leetonia’s Wade C. Baer to the State Auctioneers Commission. Baer’s term started Nov. 8, and will end Oct. 9, 2027.

The governor also reappointed Michael G. Verich of Warren to the Environmental Review Appeals Commission for a term from Nov. 8 until Oct. 22, 2030.

Gov. DeWine has still not announced who he’ll appoint to fill J.D. Vance’s seat on the Ohio Senate, according to the OCJ.
