Athletes enrolled in Ohio’s full-time online public school get NCAA approval
Graduates of Ohio’s full-time online public school will be able to pursue college athletics thanks to a recent approval from the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Ohio Virtual Academy received NCAA approval, allowing current and future students access to athletic scholarships and eligibility for college sports.
Kristin Stewart, head of school at OHVA, said this milestone sets students up for success in collegiate athletics at division one or two institutions.
“Earning NCAA eligibility is a significant milestone for our students,” said Stewart. “This recognition shows that our academic program is strong and gives student-athletes the confidence to pursue their goals after graduation. With this new opportunity, students can balance their academic and athletic aspirations as they move toward college.”
Stewart said the school’s virtual learning environment allows students to build their class schedule around the sport they’re passionate about, taking the time needed to travel for games and train each week.
