A Chaney Middle School student was caught with a gun on campus Friday morning.

It was then discovered that the student had a gun, according to a school press release.

Officials said the officer swiftly enacted safety protocols and removed the student from the front entrance and emergency plan operations involving law enforcement were followed.

At no time did a gun make it past the front entrance, according to the release.

Officials said the well-being and safety of all students and staff is the district’s top priority.

“Please be assured that everyone is safe, the building is secure, and a weapon was never discharged,” the statement read. “The technology put in place was effective.”

Officials said they are grateful to law enforcement for their prompt response and will continue to work with them during this investigation.
