Ravenna Post investigating fatal helicopter crash at Mogadore Reservoir

The Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal helicopter crash that occurred just after 7 a.m. on Friday at the Mogadore Reservoir in Portage County.

Official said the preliminary investigation revealed a Schweizer 269C, piloted by Anthony Jones, 52, of North Royalton, Ohio, struck power lines and crashed into the water at the Mogadore Reservoir.

The Suffield Township Fire Department confirmed that Jones was the only individual onboard the aircraft.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Portage County Emergency Management Agency.

The incident remains under investigation.
