OPINION: I recently tried these 3 Mahoning Valley restaurants and here’s what I thought
Looking for a restaurant with food that’s filling and options on the menu for every kind of eater?
These three restaurants put their own spin on delicious American and Italian cuisine that’ll have you wondering what took you so long to stop in.
Here’s what I had at Magic Tree Pub in Boardman, Sunrise Inn and Bushwick, both in Warren, and whether or not you should give them a try for your next evening outing.
Sunrise Inn
Professional sports fans, unofficial Italian cuisine connoisseurs and history buffs alike will all find something to like about Sunrise Inn.
This mom-and-pop family-owned Trumbull County restaurant has been serving Italian authenticity for 96 years.
Check out the framed newspapers, sports memorabilia, pictures and flags carefully placed on the walls.
I had cheese tortellini, which was perfect with complimentary fresh, warm bread and topped with a meatball.
My dinner date ordered hot wings with a side of mouth-watering French fries with vinegar that induced memories of being at the local fairgrounds.
Stop by Sunrise Inn from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 510 E. Market St. in Warren.
Bushwick
While listening to a local band’s performance inside the bar, I got to try the aptly-named killer tacos at Bushwick and they’re some of the best-tasting street tacos I’ve ever had.
This bar and grill on South Street in downtown Warren opened in 2022 and invite local bands and duos to play live music.
One order comes with three of Bushwick’s legendary tacos topped with cilantro, cheese, purple cabbage and onions inside a warm tortilla.
I devoured the steak tacos, but they’ve also incorporated chorizo and pork belly tacos, loaded tater tots, burgers and more menu switches for special events like brunch.
Visit Bushwick from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 446 South St. in downtown Warren.
Magic Tree Pub
Staff at Magic Tree Pub make sure customers have a warm, welcoming environment to catch up on the most recent game, connect with friends and make new ones.
It was my first time trying Magic Tree Pub’s bacon mac burger, and it was perfectly cooked to my preference, topped with one of my favorite comfort foods.
I paired the burger with a pomegranate hard cider from Downeast Cider House, and next time I’ll be trying the house made pretzel topped with caramel pecan sauce.
There are as many as 30 varieties of beer on tap, many from Mahoning Valley breweries like Modern Methods, Noble Creature Wild Ales and Penguin City.
Magic Tree Pub is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon - 8 p.m. Sunday at 7463 South Ave. in Boardman.
