On Thursday, March 27, the dedicated workforce of Insight Trumbull, formerly Trumbull Regional Medical Center, arrived at work amid the hospitals ongoing transition to become fully independent of Steward.

However, upon arrival, SEIU 1199 WV/KY/OH members who work for the hospital were shocked to learn Insight Health Systems, the hospitals new owners, planned to abruptly stop all operations, including outpatient, inpatient, and ER services at 3:00 p.m. without warning their workforce or their patients.

Representatives from the hospital have claimed these sudden developments are due to Steward Health Care’s bankruptcy proceedings and “the mounting lack of transferred dollars owed for healthcare services delivered to patients at Trumbull and Hillside hospitals.”

This sudden change resulted in patients being transferred, future appointments for members of our community being canceled, and a growing level of uncertainty regarding the future of the hospitals workforce.

Nearly 150 SEIU members have worked diligently through Stewards poor management, bankruptcy and sale of the hospital. These workers serve as respiratory therapists, pharmacists, med techs, radiological techs, social workers, dieticians, switchboard operators, rehabilitation services, and more classifications.

Now they are concerned whether or not they will receive their next paycheck and be able to provide for their families.

SEIU 1199 is committed to supporting one another and standing by each and every worker who has been blindsided by Insight’s careless decisions.

The Union will continue to fight for answers for all members and hold Insight Health Systems accountable to not cause further unnecessary confusion for these workers who have already endured months of tumultuous changes.
