In March, Premier Financial Corporation in Ohio merged with WesBanco, Inc., headquartered in West Virginia.

Now WesBanco wants to give the Premier Bank tower in Youngstown new revamped signage to illustrate the acquisition.

WesBanco brought a request to the city of Youngstown’s design review committee April 1 to install new wall signs with the WesBanco text and logo to the Premier Bank tower and its entrance.

Members of the committee include Youngstown Deputy Director of Public Works Chuck Shasho and Nikki Posterli, director of the city’s Community Planning and Economic Development.

The committee did not approve WesBanco’s request during the April 1 meeting.

They asked for more signage design options from representative Jeff Prymas with Gardner Signs.

“WesBanco wanted to keep with the continued tradition of branding this iconic building,” Prymas said.

Currently, there’s two sets of logos adorning the top of the Premier Tower, located at 275 Federal Plaza West in Youngstown.

Prymas said the proposed WesBanco signage plan is identical to what’s currently up on the tower with Premier Bank.

In the design request, WesBanco wants to remove the existing logos to install:

  • Two high-rise wall signs on the East and West sides of the tower displaying the WesBanco logo measuring 12’ 2” wide x 8’ 7.5” high.
  • Two high-rise wall signs on the north and south sides of the tower displaying the green WesBanco logo and WesBanco text.

WesBanco also wants to add a new sign above the front entrance on Federal Plaza West, replacing the text reading The Home Savings and Loan, Co.

Prymas said he worked on the signs for Premier Bank when they moved in 2020 into the Home Savings and Loan, Co. building, constructed in 1919.

“The new signage is actually slightly smaller than what’s currently up there, just because how it lays out,” he said. “The bank is excited about this project and keeping the tradition going for this building.”

The committee asked for more design options for the proposed WesBanco entrance sign, measuring 22’ 1” wide x 3’ 4.5” high.

“Premier chose to keep the ‘Home Savings and Loan’ in 2020,” Prymas said. “At that time, they didn’t feel they needed anything down at the lower elevation. WesBanco feels differently; they feel it’s important to have their name on the lower elevation.”
