Ohio invests $1.2 million to bring more safe housing for residents in recovery statewide
A new Ohio program administered $1.2 million to help more than 1,000 residents recovering from substance use disorder find safe and stable housing.
The Ohio Recovery Housing program provides financial assistance through rent vouchers for Ohioans in recovery with incomes at or below 50 percent of the Area Median Income.
The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Nearly $400,000 from the Ohio Recovery Housing Program will be going to Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health boards in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
Trumbull County will receive $284,426 to provide rent stipends for up to 200 residents, supporting them through their first year in recovery housing through contracts with eight certified providers.
Mahoning County will receive $109,678 to assist 121 Ohioans in recovery by providing safe and structured sober housing options.
Eleven ADAMH boards across the state received funding.
Lydia Mihalik is the director of the Department of Development.
“Recovery doesn’t happen overnight, and no one should have to take that journey alone,” Mihalik said. “These grants will ensure more Ohioans have the opportunity to reclaim their independence, rebuild their lives, and write a new chapter filled with hope and opportunity.”
