$25 million park revitalization project entering second phase in East Palestine
Crews are almost complete with the first phase of the East Palestine Village Park revitalization project and starting work on an aquatic center as part of phase two.
The second phase of the $25-million project in East Palestine starts June 16 to transform the park into a modern recreation space.
Antonio Diaz-Guy is the manager of the village of East Palestine.
“We’re excited to see this progress firsthand and continue moving toward a park that reflects the spirit and resilience of our community,” he said.
During phase one, crews completed a new sand volleyball court, installed new lights and patio furniture. They also started installing fencing around the courts, working on sidewalks and paving the dog park parking lot.
Phase two will be focused on developing the site for the park’s future aquatic center and demolishing existing courts.
“We know how much these spaces mean to residents, and we’re committed to preserving these memories while we update our facilities and build towards our future,” he said.
In order to keep everyone safe, the park’s Rainbow Dreamland will close on June 15 and remain closed throughout the duration of the project.
The project is expected to wrap up next summer.
Despite construction starting June 16, other parts of the park will remain open to the public throughout the summer and rest of 2025.
The parking lot between the current tennis courts and the existing pool building will serve as the primary construction loading area between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
According to the village, the community center and other amenities will reopen once demolition concludes.
