Skin cancer is one of the most frequent diagnoses for patients to get in the U.S., according to The American Melanoma Foundation, affecting one in five Americans throughout their lifetime.

Preventative measures include wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoiding tanning beds and scheduling regular skin exams with healthcare professionals.

Early detection is key; most skin cancers can be treated effectively when caught early.

On July 16, the Columbiana County Health District is hosting a low-cost skin cancer screening that’s free for some community members.

Schedule at appointment with local physicians volunteering for the screening at the Health District office, located at 7360 State Route 45 in Lisbon, by calling 330-424-0272 ext. 114.

The Columbiana County Health District recommends residents get checked if they notice any skin abnormalities like sores that won’t heal, moles or warts that have changed or changes in skin’s color pigmentation.

There’s no fee for residents within the Columbiana County Health District to receive a screening, but residents from Salem, East Liverpool and anywhere outside Columbiana County will be charged $5, payable in cash.

The next skin cancer screening is happening August 20 at the Columbiana County Health District.
