The average American moves over 11 times in their lifetime, according to data compiled by moveBuddha.

And the most popular time to move is typically in the summer months, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

But where are people moving to? Well, a new report by U-Haul has that answer:

What places are Ohio residents moving to the most?

According to U-Haul’s mid-year report, Ohio residents are packing up to move to Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania the most.

Metro areas where Ohioans are moving to the most are Detroit, MI, Indianapolis, IN and Pittsburg, PA the most.

So, why are people moving to these places?

“Many of the largest U.S. metros are in growth mode — a change from what was seen following the COVID-19 pandemic when people took advantage of remote work and migrated to less-crowded markets,” said U-Haul experts. “More recently, big cities and their expanding suburbs are back to greeting a robust inflow of U-Haul equipment.

What places are people moving out of to come to Ohio?

U-Haul customers are mostly moving into Ohio from cities such as Indianapolis, IN, Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL. The top states that people move out of to come to Ohio are:

  • Kentucky
  • Indiana
  • Florida
  • Tennessee
  • Michigan
  • Illinois
  • Texas
  • Georgia
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania

Which cities in Ohio are residents moving to?

Ohio residents aren’t just moving out of state though. There are several in-state moves to these cities:

  • Columbus
  • Dayton
  • Cleveland
  • Akron
  • Toledo
  • Cincinnati
