The City of Youngstown advises residents and visitors that a ceremonial 21-gun salute will take place as part of the unveiling of the new Smoky Hollow World War I marker.

The event will be held at Smokey Hollow Memorial Park at N. Walnut Street and E. Rayen Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 9 a.m.

The city is asking the community to be aware that the salute will involve the firing of blank rounds, and gunshot sounds may be heard in the surrounding area. It stated the event is a planned and honored tradition to recognize our veterans and fallen service members.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and invite those interested to attend the ceremony,” officials said.
