Ohio State Highway Patrol investigating fatal crash in Howland Township

Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post is investigating a fatal crash in Howland Township.

On Sunday, Sept. 28 at 4:17 p.m., the agency state it was dispatched to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Larchmont Avenue and North River Road in Howland Township.

Officials said a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by Alexander Elonen, 34, of Warren, was traveling southbound on Larchmont Avenue approaching the intersection of North River Road. A 2017 Kia Sorento, operated by Julie Lowry, 58, of Warren, was northbound on Larchmont Avenue turning left onto North River Road.

Elonen proceeded into the intersection and struck the right side of Lowry’s vehicle, according to the police report.

Officials said Elonen was transported by Howland Township EMS to Saint Joseph’s Hospital where he died from his injuries although he was wearing a helmet.

No other injuries were reported.

Other agencies on scene were the Howland Township Police Department, Howland Townshi pEMS and Fire Department and Underwood’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
