City of Youngstown announces open-house event for public to view Chill-Can property
The City of Youngstown will open the Chill‑Can property, located at N. Lane Avenue on Youngstown’s East Side to the public for a community open house on April 25 and 26, giving residents a chance to see the site for themselves and better understand its current condition and future potential.
The city said it will open the buildings for residents to take a firsthand look. City staff will be on site for safety and to answer basic questions. The city said access will be limited to designated areas of the property to ensure safety. Visitors should plan to wear sturdy footwear.
“For too long, our community has seen this property through a negative lens and secondhand information,” said Mayor Derrick McDowell.
The event is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to open communication and public involvement as conversations about the property continue and is an opportunity for community members to tour the site, view its current condition, and see the potential this property holds for the future, according to the city.
“This open house is all about allowing our community to see it for themselves,” said McDowell. “To dream alongside of one another in full transparency. Community engagement means giving folks a peek inside to begin building trust for its new future.”
