Mahoning Valley area players shine at Ohio North-South Classic Football All-Star Games
MASSILLON — The North teams earned a win and a tie in the Ohio North-South Classic Football All-Star Games played at Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium on Saturday. It marked the 81st consecutive games played in the series, one of the longest in the nation for a state all-star series.
In the Division I-III game, the North rolled to a 24-3 triumph over the South.
Six Mahoning Valley-area gridders chosen for the game for the North include Austintown Fitch’s offensive linemen Booker Newberry and Noah Bolen and defensive back Davanzo Tate III, Youngstown Chaney wide receiver Allen Hill Jr. and linebacker Allex Hill and Boardman defensive lineman Abdel Abuenaaj.
Meanwhile in the Division IV-VII contest, the North and South teams battled to a 14-14 tie.
Seven Mahoning Valley players chosen for the North team in that contest included wide receiver Jeremiah Thomas and defensive lineman Zach Coffee of West Branch, Cardinal Mooney running back Ike Lake, offensive lineman Dewey Heard and defensive back Kingston Powell, Poland running back-receiver Vito Komara and Salem defensive back Cletis Monroy.
Poland head coach Tom Pavlansky was the head coach of this year’s North team in the Division IV-VII contest.
